TurboVUi Solo FAQs

Q
What is the difference between TurboVUi Solo and TurboVUi Dispatch products?
A
TurboVUi Solo connects to a single MOTOTRBO control station (mobile with power supply) to remotely access the channels programmed in that radio. TurboVUi Dispatch is a future product scheduled for release in Q3 that will connect to many MOTOTRBO radios using a unified user interface for all connected radios.

Q
Can TurboVUi Solo Client software and other software coexist on the same PC?
A
Yes, We have not found any incompatibilities to date. Since it's impossible for us to check all combinations, we are very interested in hearing about your specific setup.

Q
Can TurboVUi Solo Client software and other software (such as GPS tracking) coexist on the same radio system?
A
Yes, But TurboVUi will require a separate MOTOTRBO control station (mobile with power supply) for each channel that needs to be simultaneously monitored.

Q
If I want to have simultaneous access to more than one talk group, would I need a dedicated radio and TurboVUi IP Gateway for each talk group?
A
Yes

Q
How many Client licenses come with the TurboVUi IP Base System (Part # S2-61428)?
A
The TurboVUi IP Base System bundles the IP Gateway with one Solo Client license. Additional Solo Client licenses can be purchased in packs of 5 with Part # S2-61429.

Q
If I add a 5-Pack Client License, will I be able to connect a total of 6 PCs?
A
Yes. Since the The first TurboVUi Solo Base System is bundled with a single Solo Client license, an additional 5-Pack Client License will provide the capability to connect 6 PCs.

Q
What is the maximum number of Clients that can be connected to a TurboVUi IP Gateway?
A
The maximum number of simultaneous Client connections is 36.

Q
Can I install the Client software on more PCs than the License supports?
A
Yes, The license controls the number of concurrent or simultaneous connections.  But the software can be installed on as many PCs as you like.

Q
Can I use TurboVUi to access a radio system from outside my local area network?
A
Yes, The TurboVUi Solo Client can be used on a PC that is located virtually anywhere, as long as it has a network connection.

Q
What are the network requirements if a Client PC is outside my local area network?
A
First, Port Forwarding must be configured on the firewall protecting your LAN. Second, the TurboVUi IP Gateway should be assigned a Static IP Address.

Q
What Port Number should be used for port forwarding for a TurboVUi IP Gateway?
A
The IP Gateway receives messages on port number 48222.

Q
Will TurboVUi work with radios other than MOTOTRBO?
A
No, Not yet. We are planning to offer interfaces for other radios in Q4 of 2009.

Q
Will the front mic connector function on a MOTOTRBO base station if a TurboVUi IP Gateway is attached to its rear accessory connector?
A
Maybe, This depends on the MOTOTRBO firmware version. With firmware earlier than 01.04.01, the front mic connector and the rear accessory connector cannot be used together. With firmware 01.04.01, they can be used together, but audio transmitted from a mic plugged into the base station will not be heard at a TurboVUi Client.

Q
What microphone should be used with the TurboVUi Solo Client?
A
We recommend using USB mics, since they typically provide more gain than analog mics, and they don't require batteries. The Logitech USB Desktop Mic # 980186-0403 is readily available and performs well. Another good choice is the Dynex USB Desktop Mic # DX-USBMIC. These each cost less than $40.00. Neither has a PTT button, but we are researching available mics with PTT.
